Relive the 1970s’ media boom at Pouls Radio

As you move through the darkly decorated shop, you will discover a wide range of characteristic TVs, radios, reel-to-reel tape recorders, record players, cassette recorders and loudspeakers from the period. In 1974, brands such as B&O, Rank Arena, Blaupunkt, Tandberg, AKAI, ITT-Schaub Lorenz, Philips and Grundig dominated the shelves. And if you want to remain with the 1970s, there are vinyl records to peruse in the form of reissues of albums from the period which you can buy and take home.

Please note that until March 23, historical shops are only open on select days.

The story behind Pouls Radio

Den Gamle By has worked closely with the Radio History Association in Ringsted on the shop’s interior design. The association has supplied most of the equipment and contributed invaluable technical expertise. The B&O Museum in Struer has donated the B&O devices on display in the shop. Poul Erik Pedersen, who once owned the original Pouls Radio in Holstebro, has donated a large part of the original furnishings, including the shopfront signs and shelving. The furniture and equipment in the repair workshop have been donated by EUC Ringsted.

Volunteers in the Pouls Radio Workshop
To ensure a historically and technically well-founded experience, Den Gamle By has established a radio guild made up of individuals with a technical or professional background in the radio and television industry. These volunteers staff the workshop on selected days.

The story of radio and TV shops

In the 1970s, radios and televisions were commonly referred to as “brown goods” because their cabinets were typically made of oak, teak or rosewood.

Music on Vinyl, Reel-to-Reel and Cassette
The shop tells the story of a time when the media landscape exploded, and the whole world entered the living room through television, radio and music.
